DE LE MUR SASSELLA Valtellina Superiore DOCG
The Sassella denomination, located west of Sondrio, takes its name from the Sassella Sanctuary and the prominent rocky terrain. Spanning just over 100 hectares, this region features a patchwork of small, south-facing plots supported by stone walls, situated at altitudes between 270 and 600 meters. At the core of this zone, between 400 and 550 meters, lie the terraced vineyards beyond the historic San Lorenzo Convent walls, built in 1100. These vineyards, ideal for showcasing the elegance of mountain Nebbiolo, cover several hectares of predominantly sandy soil, rich in glacial rock debris and iron, which imparts a distinctive reddish hue to the earth.
A balanced, elegant Nebbiolo from the Sassella subzone, with medium body, harmonious tannins, and notes of small red fruits (cherry, cranberry), spice (clove, pepper), and minerality. Itβs fresh yet structured,
